"Our new baby son Jamie is two weeks old today , his birth weight was 6 lb 3 Oz and this dropped by 7 per cent by the time we left the hospital , he weighed in yesterday at 6lb 14Oz we are thrilled.
When I got pregnant first I got myself all stressed out about how I was going to feed our new baby, at one stage my husband said you are getting so stressed about wondering if you'll be able to breast feed that perhaps to ease your mind we'll decide to bottle feed so I agreed with the thought of sure I'll just give the breast feeding a "try" . At seven months we were at an anti natal class where they told us the benefits of breast feeding I thought after hearing this That I must give it a good shot for the sake of our new baby I heard about you Mairead from a pal of mine who saw an ad for your seminar in Dunboyne Castle, I came to you for a one on one two hour session, leaving your house that Friday afternoon I felt very confident about the breast feeding you changed my attitude completely , the morning jamie was born I knew what I needed to do to make this work and I was very relaxed about it, I did not need to trouble the mid wives (who are so so good ) as I knew what jamie needed me to do The feeding is going so so well I'm the baby in my family none of us were breast fed nor did my sisters breast feed theirs so Mairead knowing I could call you at any time with questions was very reassuring.''
"Mairead, I just wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you for all your help and support. I didn't know what to expect from a breastfeeding course, before I had my baby but I'm so glad I went. I'm quite a shy person, but I was immediately comfortable chatting with you and the others. You never made me feel like I was asking too many questions or that any of my questions were silly. It was clear that you are an expert in breastfeeding; and have both practical experience in helping mothers to breastfeed successfully, and a knowledge of the latest best practices in the area. After having a baby, there was so much to learn; because of your course, breastfeeding wasn't one of them. All the information you gave us came flooding back when the midwives were showing me how to hold, latch, and care for my newborn baby; and i could concentrate on enjoying feeding my baby instead of learning a new skill from scratch. When I had problems, initially with cracked nipples, and later with raynauds; it was reassuring to be able to call you and know that you'd probably seen these problems before and would know how to fix them. I can honestly say that I wouldn't have been able to continue breastfeeding if it wasn't for your support. Breastfeeding my 10 week old daughter is such a lovely experience that I'm glad I had your help and persisted instead of giving up when I ran into problems. Thanks again, Brid"
